Beijing chaos after record floods in Chinese capital

The heaviest rainfall to hit China's capital Beijing in 60 years has left 37 people dead and stranded thousands at the main airport.
The deluge struck on Saturday afternoon and continued into the night, flooding major roads, state media said.
Roof collapses, lightning strikes and electrocution from downed power lines were among the causes of the deaths.
More than 500 flights were cancelled at the main airport, the Beijing News reported.
The floods also caused a backlash on the internet, with many angry at the lack of warning and the apparent inadequacy of drainage systems.
State news agency Xinhua said 460mm (18.1 in) fell in Beijing's Fangshan district, with the capital as a whole averaging 170mm.

North Korea floods leave 170 dead and 84,000 homeless

Almost 170 people have died in recent severe floods in North Korea, with a further 400 missing and more than 84,000 made homeless across the country, according to the state media.
The official Korean Central News Agency said floods and a typhoon also displaced about 212,200 people and submerged more than 65,000 hectares (160,000 acres) of farmland between late June and the end of July.

Devastating India floods leave 95 dead, millions homeless

Flooding described by India's prime minister as the worst in recent times, has left at least 95 people dead and almost 2 million others homeless in the country's remote Assam state.
The Brahmaputra river overflowed during monsoon rains over the past week, flooding more than 2,000 villages and destroying homes in the northeast of the country, officials said.
Most of the dead were swept away by the fast-flowing water, while 16 were reported to have been buried by landslides caused by the heavy rains.
